Quick answer: The best vocal plugins for Logic Pro are the ones already inside it: Channel EQ, Compressor (Vintage Opto or Vintage FET model), DeEsser 2, Pitch Correction, ChromaVerb and Tape Delay. They cover a full professional vocal chain. Buy third-party plugins only for a job the stock set does poorly, such as dynamic EQ, transparent de-essing or graphical pitch editing.
This page is part of our complete guide to Logic Pro vocals. Below you get the stock plugins first, with starting settings, then the third-party and free plugins that are worth adding, and a table that shows which plugin fits which job.
How we chose these plugins
Every plugin here does one job in a vocal chain: clean, control, correct, color or place the voice. We list a plugin only if it runs in Logic Pro on a Mac (Audio Units format) and if it does its job better or faster than the stock option. We do not list a plugin because it is popular. Prices for third-party plugins change often and sales are frequent, so check the developer's site before you buy.
Which vocal plugin for which job
Use this table to see where a stock plugin is enough and where an upgrade can help.
| Job | Stock Logic plugin | Free third-party | Paid upgrade | Is the upgrade worth it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cleanup EQ | Channel EQ | TDR Nova | FabFilter Pro-Q | Only if you need dynamic EQ bands |
| Compression | Compressor (7 models) | Klanghelm MJUC jr. | Waves CLA-76 | Rarely. The stock models cover most styles |
| De-essing | DeEsser 2 | TDR Nova (as a de-esser band) | FabFilter Pro-DS | Yes, for bright or sibilant voices |
| Pitch correction | Pitch Correction, Flex Pitch | none we recommend | Antares Auto-Tune, Celemony Melodyne | Yes, for heavy tuning or a hard Auto-Tune sound |
| Saturation and warmth | ChromaGlow (Logic Pro 11 and later), Vintage EQ Collection | Klanghelm MJUC jr. (driven) | Soundtoys Decapitator | Sometimes, for aggressive rap and rock tones |
| Air and presence | Channel EQ high shelf, Exciter | Slate Digital Fresh Air | none needed | No |
| Reverb | ChromaVerb, Space Designer | Valhalla Supermassive | Valhalla VintageVerb | Low cost, but stock is already strong |
| Delay | Tape Delay, Stereo Delay, Echo | Valhalla Supermassive | Soundtoys EchoBoy | Only for character delays |
| Creative effects | Vocal Transformer, EVOC 20 PolySynth, Pedalboard | none needed | none needed | No |
The stock Logic Pro vocal plugins
Logic Pro ships with every plugin you need for a release-ready vocal. Learn these first. A better plugin does not fix a chain that is in the wrong order or set too hard.
1. Channel EQ: cleanup and tone
Channel EQ is the first and last tone tool in most vocal chains. It is light on CPU and it shows a live analyzer, so you can see where the problem frequencies are. Use one instance first to cut, and a second one after compression to shape.
2. Compressor: control the level
The Logic Compressor has seven circuit models in one plugin: Platinum Digital, Studio VCA, Studio FET, Classic VCA, Vintage VCA, Vintage FET and Vintage Opto. For vocals, start with Vintage Opto for smooth singing and Vintage FET for fast, forward rap vocals. Many mixers use both in series: FET first to catch peaks, Opto second to level the phrase.
3. DeEsser 2: tame S and T sounds
DeEsser 2 reduces harsh sibilance after compression has made it louder. Put it after the compressor, or before and after if the voice is very bright.
4. Pitch Correction and Flex Pitch: tuning
Pitch Correction is the real-time tuner. A fast response gives the hard Auto-Tune effect, a slow response gives natural correction. Flex Pitch is not a plugin. It is an editor in the track, and it lets you fix single notes by hand. Our guide to Auto-Tune in Logic Pro covers both in detail.
5. ChromaGlow and the Vintage EQ Collection: warmth
ChromaGlow arrived in Logic Pro 11. It adds tube, tape and console saturation. The Vintage EQ Collection (Console, Graphic and Tube models) adds color while it boosts. Use small amounts. Saturation also raises the level, so match the output before you judge it.
6. ChromaVerb and Space Designer: space
ChromaVerb is an algorithmic reverb with a clear display and many vocal presets. Space Designer is a convolution reverb that uses recordings of real rooms and classic hardware. Put either one on a send, not on the vocal track, so you can control the wet level with one fader.

7. Tape Delay, Stereo Delay and Echo: depth
Tape Delay syncs to the project tempo and darkens each repeat, which keeps it behind the voice. Echo is the simplest delay and is light on CPU. Stereo Delay sets different times on the left and right sides for width.
8. Multipressor, Exciter and Adaptive Limiter: finishing
Multipressor is a multiband compressor. Use it to control one boomy or harsh band without changing the rest. Exciter adds high harmonics for air. Adaptive Limiter on a vocal bus catches stray peaks.
Starting settings for the stock vocal chain
These are our starting values for a lead vocal recorded at a sensible level (peaks near -10 to -6 dB). They are starting points, not rules. Change one control at a time and listen.
| Order | Plugin | Key settings for singing | Key settings for rap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Channel EQ | High-pass 90 Hz; cut 2 to 3 dB near 250 to 350 Hz if boxy | High-pass 100 Hz; cut 2 to 3 dB near 300 Hz |
| 2 | Pitch Correction | Song key set, Response 40 to 60 ms | Song key set, Response 0 to 10 ms for the hard effect |
| 3 | Compressor, Vintage FET | Ratio 4:1, fast attack, 3 to 5 dB of gain reduction | Ratio 4:1 to 8:1, fast attack, 5 to 8 dB of gain reduction |
| 4 | Compressor, Vintage Opto | 2 to 3 dB of gain reduction | 2 to 4 dB of gain reduction |
| 5 | DeEsser 2 | Frequency 5 to 8 kHz, reduce until S sounds are smooth, not lisped | Same range; rap often needs a little more reduction |
| 6 | Channel EQ (tone) | +1 to 2 dB near 3 to 5 kHz; high shelf +1 to 2 dB at 10 to 12 kHz | +2 dB near 3 kHz; small high shelf |
| Send A | ChromaVerb | Plate or Room, decay 1.2 to 2 s, pre-delay 20 to 40 ms | Short Room, decay under 1 s |
| Send B | Tape Delay | 1/4 note, 2 to 3 repeats, high cut on | 1/8 note on phrase ends only |

Third-party vocal plugins worth adding
Add a third-party plugin when you can name the problem it solves. These are the upgrades that we see make the clearest difference on vocals.
FabFilter Pro-Q: precise and dynamic EQ
Pro-Q lets an EQ band react only when a frequency gets too loud. That fixes a harsh note or a boomy word without dulling the whole take. If you mix many vocals, this is often the first paid plugin worth buying.
FabFilter Pro-DS: transparent de-essing
Pro-DS separates sibilance from the rest of the voice better than most de-essers. It is worth it for bright female voices, close-miked rap and cheap condenser mics.
Antares Auto-Tune and Celemony Melodyne: serious pitch work
Auto-Tune is the standard for the hard, modern pitch effect, and it has a low-latency mode for tracking. Melodyne is the standard for natural, note-by-note editing, including timing and vibrato. Logic Pro's Flex Pitch covers simple editing, so buy Melodyne only if you edit pitch every day.
Waves CLA-76 and Renaissance Vox: fast, simple dynamics
The CLA-76 is a fast FET-style compressor with an aggressive sound that suits rap. Renaissance Vox does compression, gating and level in three controls. Both are often on sale. Our list of the best Waves plugins for vocals goes deeper.
Soundtoys EchoBoy and Decapitator: character
EchoBoy models many tape and analog delays. Decapitator adds strong analog saturation. Use them when you want the vocal to sound colored, not clean.
Valhalla VintageVerb: low-cost reverb
VintageVerb has a classic hardware sound and a low price. It is a good second reverb if you want a darker or more vintage space than ChromaVerb gives.
Free vocal plugins that work in Logic Pro
These free plugins are Audio Units that load in Logic Pro on a Mac. Download them only from the developer's own website.
- TDR Nova (Tokyo Dawn Records): a dynamic EQ that can also work as a de-esser.
- Klanghelm MJUC jr.: a simple variable-mu style compressor with a warm tone.
- Valhalla Supermassive: huge reverbs and delays for creative vocal throws.
- Slate Digital Fresh Air: adds high-end air with two controls.
Plugin order in the Logic Pro channel strip
Order changes the result more than plugin choice. Use this order on the vocal track: cleanup EQ, pitch correction, compression, de-esser, tone EQ, saturation. Put reverb and delay on Aux sends. If you track with plugins on, use only Pitch Correction and one light compressor. Add the rest after recording to keep latency low.
Skip the setup: ready-made Logic Pro vocal chains
A preset is a saved Logic Pro channel strip with all these plugins already in order and set. You load it in one click and adjust the input level. Our Logic Pro presets use Logic's stock plugins, so you do not need to buy third-party plugins to use them. The one exception is Vocal Billboard 100, which needs Waves plugins.

FAQ
Are Logic Pro's stock plugins good enough for vocals?
Yes. Channel EQ, Compressor, DeEsser 2, Pitch Correction, ChromaVerb and Tape Delay cover a full professional vocal chain. Most third-party plugins add speed or a specific character, not a missing function.
What is the best compressor in Logic Pro for vocals?
The stock Compressor. Use the Vintage Opto model for smooth singing and the Vintage FET model for fast, punchy rap. Two compressors in series, each doing 2 to 5 dB of gain reduction, often sound more natural than one compressor doing all of it.
Does Logic Pro have Auto-Tune?
Logic Pro has Pitch Correction, a stock plugin that can give the Auto-Tune effect with a fast response time, and Flex Pitch for note-by-note editing. Antares Auto-Tune itself is a separate paid plugin.
Do vocal presets for Logic Pro need third-party plugins?
It depends on the preset. All Thir13een Logic Pro presets use stock plugins only, except Vocal Billboard 100, which needs Waves plugins and says so on the product page.
Which vocal plugins should I use while recording?
Use as few as possible: Pitch Correction if the artist wants to hear the effect, and one light compressor. Set the I/O buffer size low while you record, and add the full chain after.
